Hatton to Futaba HV Cable Installation

Hatton to Futaba HV Cable Installation

Background

This project involved the installation of 5.5 kilometres of HV cable through the village of Hatton to Dove Valley Park, Foston. The works included trenching and ducting, cable pulling, joint bays and intermediate jointing.

The works required the installation of twin 11KV cables laid in twin duct accompanied by twin 7 pair pilot cables laid in separate ducts. 32 intermediate 11KV joints and 50 intermediate pilot joints were made along the 5.5 kilometre length.

Obstacles faced included crossing the railway line adjacent to the level crossing in the centre of the village of Hatton, crossing the A50 highway in Foston, naturally occurring and artificially hard ground conditions throughout, a shallow culverted watercourse and busy ‘A’ road junctions.

The A50 crossing required weekend working at the junction with the A511. Existing ducts were proved and used to pull the HV cable beneath the A50 saving the need to use directional drilling techniques.

The works were a success and were delivered to a tight programmed completion and were delivered to budget.
