DDA Compliant Ramp Installation

DDA Compliant Ramp Installation

Background

The works have been commissioned to improve existing access arrangements to several schools within the Sandwell borough. The proposed accesses are to be fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regarding access for the disabled.

A total of 17 number ramps are to be installed within 5 primary schools across the borough.

The works entail the construction of tarmacadam ramps to existing stepped accesses. The ramps have been designed to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the ramps have been constructed to a maximum 1 in 12 gradient.

A couple of the ramps have required additional work due to the height of the required ramp. Additional work includes the construction of retaining walls and handrailing.

The works have been programmed to be mostly carried out during the 2 week easter holiday to minimise disruption during school time.

The works are progressing well and completion should be in accordance with the programme.
