Background

The existing retaining wall located at the front of an existing council owned building comprising both residential housing and business dwellings was in a state imminent collapse.

The retaining wall comprises 225mm thick brickwork laid in english bond with a cement mortar. The wall accommodates two sets of concrete access steps and is furnished with a steel fence built into the wall.

The wall is being replaced with 225mm thick brickwork laid in english bond with cement mortar. The existing concrete steps are to be replaced with new and a new steel fence is to be erected, root fixed to the rear of the wall.

The area of flag paving to the upper level directly outside the properties is to be replaced with new.

Access to the flats and businesses was maintained throughout the works.

The works progressed well and were completed on time and to budget.
